The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday with over 2,000 years of history. It commemorates the patriotic poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the Miluo River to protest against corruption in the government. To honor his memory, people participate in dragon boat races and eat zongzi (sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves).
